A warm start to the week as a vigorous weather system will move through Tuesday. Some colder air behind this weather system with 850 mb temps falling to -2C
A Friday system could bring a quick snow burst into the area with 850 mb temperatures around 0c. It all depends on whether we can get enough cold air on the surface because it looks like the upper air is enough to support snow.
Moderately cold air moves in Saturday, especially for this time of year with -4c at 850 mb
This is an interesting graphic for Sunday. Not only does it show very cold air across the Great Lakes region for this time of year but it also shows that the Polar Vortex is alive and well. Remember that there is still a considerable snow cover across Canada right now and from the north we still see -26c. That's amazing...this time of year and there's still a strong El Nino pattern in control.

Hi Greg. All this talk of cold temperatures has got me depressed. Are we below average for this time of year? When can we usually expect to see some temperatures in the 60s?
Greg,
I am hoping I can encourage you to post a blog that describes some of the 'interesting' forecast models. As my sister puts it, "they are really nice colors, but what do they mean?" We are both avid readers of your posts and always look for more, but I know that we both would love to get some sort of understanding to these lovely colorfilled graphics! Keep up the great work, weather.com has got nothing on you!
Thanks again!
~Elisa
