Showers and thunderstorms continue to develop across northern Illinois this morning. Some of these showers are convective so don't be suprised to hear some thunder a little later this afternoon. The flow right now is from the southwest so that's where the showers and storms will come from.

Greg-Whats going on lately with the NWS precipitation predictions coming up short routinely?
I'm afraid I am going to have to plead guilty as well here. We use a product called the QPF or Quantitative Precipitation Forecast. Which is defined as a spatial and temporal precipitation forecast that will predict the potential amount of future precipitation for a specified region, or area. In lay mans terms it's how much moisture potential we have with a particular storm system. These models are not perfect and this is probably the most difficult aspect to predict.
