A little 'fly in the oinment'
The snow began on schedule with the heaviest snowfall between 1:30 and 2:00pm. Right now there is about 3" of snow on the ground at FWA. We are see heavy bands of snowfall across the area right now. Here's the Doppler picture I am seeing right now. So here's my concern. There is what we call a trowal (In Canadian weather terminology, the projection on the earth's surface of a tongue of warm air aloft) across the northwestern part of the state this morning. Late last night we goa pirep on a flight to South Bend reporting warmer air aloft. This warm air, if it moves northeast will really knock down our snowfall amounts and also. South of Fort Wayne it's already a nasty mix of sleet, rain and freezing rain. So as I thought the cut off point is in Fort Wayne. Muncie and Indianapolis have been getting all rain for the past several hours.Still the GFS putting out 9.5" for Fort Wayne on qpf.
