Good news if you like this snow filled pattern! The new Global Forecast System model has several fast moving systems along the polar jet stream which should give us the possibility of another several inches of snow. Let's look at the data This is the 156 hour graphic which represents 7am Monday. You can see a cyclone developing in the northern Rockies. This system drops a little farter south by 0z Tuesday (7pm Monday).
The system continues to follow the northern stream quickly across the Plains.
By 6z Tuesday or (1am Tuesday) the system moves toward Chicago with heavy snow across Wisconsin and Iowa.
By 12z Tuesday (7am) we switch our attention to the system as it splits off to the south. This is a very interesting pattern and could mean heavy snow for the region. I caution you to read too much into this as it is just a 'wave chart' of systems that have not really developed yet but are building from past climatology and current patterns.
Then it begins it northern trek toward our area and the northeast.

The 240 hour forecast has a massive storm across the East Coast. and more activity along the Polar jet stream. This pattern will most likely stay active until the end of March if it holds true to other La Nina patterns of the past.
