Rumble in the Morning
Talk about being jolted out of bed early this morning! As the warm front approached this morning there was enough lift and of course abundant moisture to cause some pretty strong storms. I'm always amazed when people call the station and wonder why storms are not classified as severe. Let me say that the standards are set pretty high winds need to be at 58 mph or greater and hail needs to be larger then 3/4 inch. Even with these criteria some in the meteorological community thing they are too low. After all warnings should be life threatening when it comes to thunderstorms. Some folks think just because it's windy and they can hear the hail on their house it must be severe. Just to be fair we did experience winds at our New Haven High School Weatherbug site at almost 50 mph and here at the station at 42 mph.
